Iron Glass in Ukraine has modded this full frame Soviet lens set that is an excellent choice for artistic projects. These lenses have a fascinating history, as they were based on blueprints obtained by the USSR from Zeiss after World War II. The Mir-1B and Mir-20m lenses, which were inspired by the Zeiss Flektogon, are particularly popular for their incredible flares.
One of the most famous Soviet lenses is the Helios, which is renowned for its unique qualities despite not being perfect. There are many versions of this lens available, with the 44-2 model being the most common. All of these versions, however, are based on the amazing Zeiss Biotar 58mm. The Jupiter-9 lens is based on the Zeiss Sonnar equivalent, further showcasing the influence of Zeiss on Soviet lens design.
The lenses modded by Iron Glass were even used in the filming of "The Batman," where director Matt Reeves and cinematographer Greig Fraser opted to use a similar old Soviet lens kit for the scene where Batman is chasing the Penguin.
